The ocean is the source of all life on this planet. The space under the surface full of remarkable creatures and natural processes is a world of its own and continues to mesmerize us. And then there’s us, we humans.
This documentary by the directors Yann Arthus-Betrand and Michael Pitiot examines the diversity of underwater life and focuses on its relationship with humankind. Humans standing on top of the food chain have created the world to its liking and are now becoming superpredators. Our exploitation of resources from the sea is unsustainable and affects a great deal. Underwater creatures are not an equal opponent for us. How many more of our thoughtless decisions can nature stand? Planet Ocean sets out on a voyage through the ocean and confronts the human population with the impacts of its behaviour.
