Are our forests truly natural – or have we simply forgotten how to manage them?
This film reminds us that the Czech landscape has been shaped for centuries by traditional land-management practices, including woodland grazing, coppicing and litter removal. Today, we often perceive such interventions as unnatural, yet for centuries they created open, species-rich forests. The documentary shows experimental locations in the Czech Republic where some of these practices are being reintroduced to restore biodiversity and bring threatened species back. Nature conservation does not always mean “doing nothing”. Active management may be key to preserving diverse species in a landscape shaped by people for centuries.
