The witnesses of a fast changing world, scientists Bob Paine, Tony Sinclair, John Terborgh, Jim Estes, and Mary Power have, in the beginning of their careers, made a discovery that forever changed the way we perceive the workings of nature, and today poses a hope for the future generations.

The film is based on the book by Sean B. Carroll and tells the story of five researchers, who introduced the concept of keystone species into science, through which they turned unwanted predators into vital parts of many ecosystems. Years ago, their discoveries undermined our knowledge, but today, their findings are more important than ever before to help us understand the world we live in, its rules, and our own part in it.
