Jean-Michel Claverie: Lov na zombie viry v dávném sibiřském permafrostu
Viruses existed much before the emergence of humans. While the history (evolution) of plant and animals is reconstructed from (dead) fossils, we recently discover that viruses are preserved as “living” fossils in ancient frozen soils called “permafrost”, thus initiating a new research field called “paleovirology”.
In my talk, I will provide an overview of our past discoveries and current research, answering questions such as: Where and how do you find ancient viruses? How do you know that there are still alive? Is there a risk that our work, or global warming might trigger the next pandemic?
