IN SILICO
Billions of years of evolution have allowed unicellular earthly life to evolve into intelligent forms. Can digital tools speed up such development, even though neuroscience still knows little about the brain processes?
In 2009, esteemed neurologist Henry Markram announced that in under ten years, he will be able to replicate the human brain’s functions and consciousness in a supercomputer’s digital environment. Such a model should help uncover electrochemical processes of the brain and clarify the biological prerequisites of our consciousness. Filmmaker Noah Hutton heard of Markram’s ambition and set out to capture the unique project from the beginning cornerstone to the creation of the renowned research institution.
